Happy Birthday Ringo!
Like... The Beatles would like to wish Mr Richard Henry Parkin Starkey Jnr MBE (the legend that is Ringo Starr to you and me) a very happy 70th birthday!

Ringo's 70th birthday took place on 7th July and he celebrated it in style - on stage, of course! It's great to see that he still enjoys performing!

Ringo and his All Star Band played at New York's Radio City Music Hall as part of his 2010 tour. But this show was a bit different. The band performed With a Little Help From My Friends, which then led into John's Give Peace a Chance, where a number of unexpected guests from his Beatle past joined him on stage for a sing-along, including Yoko Ono, Jeff Lynne, Peter Asher and Jim Keltner.

At the end of the night, Ringo and his band left the stage. Then the techs wheeled some fresh equipment onto the stage - including a certain familiar Hofner bass!

Ringo and the band came back on stage, only to be joined by Sir Paul McCartney no less! Paul, Ringo and the band then went on to perform a powerful rendition of Birthday from the White Album, with Ringo on his Ludwig drums and Paul on bass. The two ex-bandmates shared knowing glances during the song and a hug afterwards. A classic moment!

The full encounter can be seen on the YouTube video clip below - enjoy!

It's Been a Hard Day's Night... But We Feel Fine!
Like... The Beatles had a bit of a busy weekend this week (11th/12th June) with a very well recieved return to their own local and spiritual 'Cavern' - Riga Music Bar in Southend-on-Sea on Friday night. The band played late into the night with early 'Beatlemania', 'Sgt Pepper' and 'Abbey Road' periods represented.

This was also the first time that Mark James, the band's now not-so-new 'George' played in the band's home town - and it looks like he stole the show:

'George 2.0 is awesome... 'Here Comes the Sun' was amazing!'

- Paul, in the audience at Riga Music Bar, June 2010

The next day, in response to very flattering demand from the organisers, the band returned to St Peter's Church Village Fete following their successful appearance last year.

Hopping into their Shea Stadium outfits, the band played a range of classic Beatles hits, as well as some classic rock & roll standards in the glorious June sunshine.

Thanks to everyone who came along to see us! We'll see you all again soon!

Your starter for ten...
Come on down! You get nothing for a pair! Gold Runs! Numberwang!

Ah... the wonders of a good quiz! The anticipation of the next question, the thrill of knowing the right answer, the inevitable disappointment of not winning the speed boat and being sent away with a Blankety Blank cheque book and pen!

We at Like... The Beatles have worked hard to bring you our very own special quiz. I know, we're too good to you, we really are...

Frequent visitors to the site may have noticed that we recently added a Like... The Beatles tribute version of the famous 1967 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, originally designed by Peter Blake.

Ours wasn't designed by Mr Blake. Ours was done by our 'Paul'. He's a lot cheaper.

Anyway, the band chose a range of famous faces for our tribute cover - some well known, some not so well known. Some very popular, others not so much. All very influencial in their own way, though.

Your task (if you're up for the challenge) is to try to name them them all. We're looking for full, case-sensitive names. Guess correctly, and the famous face will disappear as if by magic. Guess 60 names correctly, and you'll be treated to a special video clip of the band backstage at their recent TV debut, not available anywhere else!

Follow the link to the Quiz at the top of the page, or just click here. GOOD LUCK!

Qui sera le meilleur ce soir?
Well, it's a week later and the dust (or volcanic ash) has now settled following our television debut on TF1 in front of a live studio audience and a TV audience of over 6 million viewers.

We had an amazing adventure that wasn't without its fair share of stresses and traumas. The biggest lesson we learnt was to always undertake a geological survey of volcanoes before travelling long distances. Despite the best efforts of mother Earth to scupper our chances, all of the band managed to make it to Paris in time for the show (just).

In between rehearsals, make up tests and filming adverts for the show, we had a great time exploring some of the more interesting and dangerous parts of northern Paris and having fun with our arch rivals on the show - the Italian Bee Gees, who were a great bunch of guys with a terrific sense of humour.

Like... The Beatles and the Italian Bee Gees opened the 2-hour show with a 'battle of the bands' type face-off. The Bee Gees started with Staying Alive, we came back with Help!, they sang Night Fever, we finished up with Twist & Shout. After what was a very strong battle, the Italian Bee Gees were declared the winners by the celebrity panel of judges. Our French isn't great, but according to our team of translators, the decision seemed to be swayed by sparkly costumes, beards and chest hair. I guess we should have worn our Peppers!:)

We had a great time doing the show, so thanks to everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes and made us feel so welcome. Thanks also to the Italian Bee Gees for being game for a laugh - and singing an acoustic version of Got To Get a Message to You backstage just for us!
